Registered Apprenticeship is a real job – you’ll be hired from day one by a NH employer. It’s also a work-based training program that includes an educational or classroom instruction component, and a hands-on paid job training component. For more information, please visit: Apprenticeship.gov

Through the ApprenticeshipNH program, you can be a registered apprentice in advanced manufacturing, automotive technology, biomedical technology, construction & infrastructure, healthcare, hospitality and information technology – rapidly growing sectors of the NH economy with a current or projected shortage of good, skilled workers. Each apprenticeship is unique because it is based on different factors, such as the occupation, industry, and training requirements. However, at a minimum, an apprenticeship requires 144 hours of classroom learning (or 18 8-hour days, for reference) and 2,000 hours (about one year if working full-time) of paid, on-the-job training. Programs typically take anywhere from one year to six years to complete.

Apprentices earn competitive wages, and from day one of the apprenticeship will receive a paycheck as well as incremental wage increases as skill levels increase. Wage increases happen at regular intervals throughout the apprenticeship, and your employer will communicate to you in advance when you can expect to receive a wage increase. In many industries, apprentices earn up to $60,000 a year upon completing an apprenticeship.

Potentially – many of our apprenticeship programs offer apprentices college credit which can be applied toward a certificate or degree. Some programs are non-credit; however, you may still be able to receive credit for prior learning for the instruction and training components of your apprenticeship. Contact us to learn more.

Some employers will pay apprentices for the time they spend in class, especially when classroom instruction happens at the work site or during normal work hours. However, it is not required that the employer pay you for class time. Additionally, you’ll receive wages for your training on-the-job while you earn as you learn.

You’ll take classes at the Community College System of New Hampshire campus closest to you or to the business sponsoring the apprenticeship. In some situations, the college may provide the instruction through online learning, on-site at your employer, or in a traditional classroom setting on campus.

Apprenticeships can begin at the age of 16, but some employers have a minimum age requirement of 18. Apprentices must be able to physically perform the essential functions of the occupation such as lifting, sitting, walking, standing, etc. Some employers may require some form of pre-employment screening. Previous work experience or education is often not required.

Registered Apprenticeship is employer-driven, which means that companies have the final say on who they hire for an apprenticeship.
